International Summer Placements

Each summer we offer between three and five International Summer Placements as part of the firm's exciting and high profile global International Clerkship programme. To be eligible, you must be in your penultimate year (or second or third year of a four-year degree course) studying law as an undergraduate in the UK.

The placements generally last for between 8 and 12 weeks, divided between London and one of our overseas offices. Recent locations include Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, Frankfurt and Chicago. You’ll be paid £270 per week for the duration of the placement and we will take care of all logistical arrangements, including your flights and accommodation.

The placement consists of a mix of training and 'live' work in each jurisdiction, providing a unique and outstanding experience for successful applicants. You will benefit from a strong network of support from each office and will be in regular contact with the Graduate Recruitment and Development team in London throughout the duration of the placement.

An International Summer Placement provides an excellent opportunity for you to gain an understanding of working for an international law firm in London. It is also an opportunity to become familiar with a legal culture different to your own, and to experience both sides of our international practice.

To apply, you will need to send us your application form by 31 January. See the Application and Selection page  for further details on the interview process for an International Summer Placement.

Reeba's story
“Having been met at the airport and driven in style to my luxury accommodation in central Singapore, I realised how meticulously this internship had been planned in order for me to derive the greatest learning benefit and enjoyment.

This continued on my first day at work where the Singapore office reciprocated the close care and attention which the London office had extended to me. They were conscious to help me maximise my learning and personal development opportunity by organising one-to-one training sessions, breakfast and lunch meetings during my first few days. This enabled me to build strong personal relationships and contacts within the firm.

Working in the context of large international transactions in the Banking & Finance department, I was involved in work conferring real responsibility, whether this was conducting significant legal research or drafting legal documents and clauses.  Alongside this, there was a strong emphasis on broadening the scope of my learning, by organising a tour of the Supreme Court of Singapore, for example.

I felt that a helping hand was always available to me, on both a personal and professional level, which made the entire experience thoroughly enjoyable.”
